Terence Crawford Vs. Canelo Alvarez: The Fight That Could Redefine Boxing History

Terence Crawford is eyeing a fight with fellow four-division champion Saul ā€œCaneloā€ Alvarez, and heā€™s not shy about explaining why he thinks itā€™s the defining legacy moment in boxing. Heā€™s laid it all out during the World Boxing Council Convention, spelling out why fans should settle in and take note.

As Crawford puts it: ā€œThat is why the fight should happen so there can be all the answers to the questions that everyone is asking.ā€ Heā€™s aware of the size and strength advantage Canelo brings, yet he refuses to be intimidated: ā€œCanelo is the bigger, the stronger fighter, heā€™s got a lot of experience just like myself, heā€™s been around for a long time. Iā€™ve got the speed, the movement, long arms, were around the same height, so thatā€™s why itā€™s an interesting fight.ā€

Crawford credits his versatility to deep preparation: ā€œI think itā€™s me training so hard and so long in studying the sport of boxing. That way, if I need it Iā€™ve got it. If I donā€™t, then it is what it is, so I just practice what I preach. I donā€™t know which style Iā€™ll fight Canelo, I just know Iā€™ll fight him.ā€ Heā€™s nothing if not confident, jokingly revealing that heā€™s not interested in losing: ā€œYes, I always want to win. If Iā€™m competing against someone, I want to do it all the way and not just do it to have fun.ā€

And if Canelo isnā€™t game? Crawford shrugs: ā€œWeā€™re looking forward to the Canelo fight happening. If it doesā€¦if it doesnā€™t, good luck to Canelo. Heā€™s a tremendous championā€¦heā€™s got the right to pick and choose who he wants to fight.ā€ Even injury concerns donā€™t faze him: ā€œIt is what it is. It ainā€™t anything I canā€™t handle.ā€

Nor will he underestimate Caneloā€™s speed: ā€œIā€™m not going to bank on him being slow. For me to beat Canelo would be one of tge biggest achievements in Boxing history. So, Iā€™m looking on leaving a legacy that will be talked about for ages to come.ā€ Assessing historical comparisons, heā€™s succinct: ā€œDonny Lalonde wasnā€™t the level of Canelo Alvarezā€¦soā€¦itā€™s two different fights.ā€
