Fans and promoters say Devin Haney needs to get busy with his career and stop sitting on the sidelines regrouping after his loss last April. He lost a 12-round majority decision to Ryan Garcia in an upset on April 20th in Brooklyn. That defeat seems to have taken something out of the former two-division world champion.
A Year On The Sidelines
Bill Haney said this week that he has āBig newsā coming soon for Devinās next fight, but heās not giving any hints about who it could be or what weight class. If Devin moves up to 147, he could fight for a world title against WBC champion Mario Barrios or WBA champ Eimantas Stanionis.
IBF champion Jaron āBootsā Ennis is interested in fighting those guys, but heās been too slow to make the fights happen. Bill would move quickly to make them happen if thatās where he wants Devin to go.
Promoter Eddie Hearn feels itās important for Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) to get back in action, noting that heāll have been out of the ring for almost a year when he returns.
Thatās not a good thing for the 26-year-old former two-division world champion Haney to be doing if he wants to stay sharp. Haney is losing a lot of money by staying out of the ring, and he could have already defended against Sandor Martin and fought IBF champion Liam Paro in a unification.
āHe Needs To Get Movingā
āLetās see what Devin does next. For me, I think he needs to get moving. He fought in April. Itās now December. Heās not going to fight in January. Heās going to be out for nearly a year by the time itās all said and done,ā said Eddie Hearn to iFL TV about Devin Haney being inactive since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20th. āIād like to see Devin back in the ring. I think heās a tremendous talent.ā
