“It’s Strictly Business”: Lopez Sends Message To Ennis On X

Teofimo Lopez sent a message to Jaron ā€˜Bootsā€™ Ennis today on X, letting him know he respects him, nothing personal, but itā€™s straight business with them fighting in early 2025. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) says heā€™s setting an ā€œexampleā€ for his ā€œyounginā€ on how to set an example.

Setting An Example

Teofimo is setting an example by moving up to 147 to take on Boots (33-0, 29 KOs) for his IBF welterweight title, possibly on March 1, and bring him down, finish what Karen Chukhadzhian started. This move by Teo shows what other fighters should be doing to further their careers.

Ennisā€™ career has looked shaky in his last four fights, struggling in every one of them against Karen x 2, David Avanesyan, and Roiman Villa. Heā€™s prime for a loss against Lopez, who has been pushing for a big fight for the last four years since his victory over Vasily Lomachenko.

Teofimoā€™s promoter, Bob Arum, at Top Rank, is negotiating the fight with Ennisā€™ Matchroom promoter, Eddie Hearn, for a joint DAZN & ESPN PPV event.

Lopez, 27, and Boots are the same age. Neither guy has done much in recent years due to the reluctance of the top-name guys to fight them. Teo has called out fighters repeatedly, but none have shown serious interest due to the risk involved.

Ennisā€™ situation is different. He hasnā€™t been calling out top names, heā€™s not fought anyone notable, and heā€™s done very little on social media or in interviews to gain a following. Moreover, Ennis hasnā€™t looked good in his recent fights, and some fans believe heā€™s a bust, a hype job that Hearn wasted his money on by signing him.
